Boo to warts!

Here at PC we just learned that Gardasil, the new HPV vaccine, is going to be made available to PCV women up to age 26 for free.

I just turned 27. Wankers.

Gardasil, if you haven't caught wind of the major debate surrounding whether or not to administer it to young women and girls in the US, has been found to be a highly effective means to fight cervical cancer, which is caused by certain strains of HPV (which, by the way, is an enormously common STD among sexually active people).

I'm not sure why Gardasil is only approved for use in women (what about all of the asymptomatic male carriers of HPV who then give it to women?) or why only women 26 and under, but I hope this is just the beginning and that we'll see vaccines expand in the future. Also, I was pleased to run across news of a new vaccine, Cervarix, which has been found to be effective in women up to 55 years of age.

Hurrah!
